Instrumental Workshops

OrlandoFest instrumental workshops are designed to improve each participant’s ensemble performance

Our nationally recognized clinicians will present clinics and workshops that benefit you and your students by offering a customized approach. Our nationally recognized clinicians will encourage your students to improve their overall practice techniques, sound production, intonation, blend, phrasing, articulation and jazz improvisation (where applicable). Practical tips for audition and concert preparation may be given as well as recommendations for choosing proper equipment, (reeds, mouthpieces, mallets, etc.) to get the most out of their performance.

Types of Ensembles: Concert Bands, Symphonic Bands, Wind Ensembles, Orchestras, Jazz Bands, Chamber Groups

Topics Covered: Sound, Intonation, Blending, Phrasing, Articulation, Key Signature, Sight Reading, Improvisation, Practice Techniques, Preparing for an Audition.

Workshop Length: Our workshops will be approximately 90 to 120 minutes in length

Customized

Designed to offer focus time on a variety of aspects of an ensemble’s music education including performance, career and audition preparation, sight reading, critical listening and more. In addition, directors may choose to include several styles of performance (i.e. Concert, Jazz, Percussion, etc. during one workshop block) with clinic time divided as to the ensemble’s needs and
director’s wishes. Clinicians are provided who have expertise in all areas being covered during the workshop.

Keys to Competition

This workshop places emphasis on the ensemble’s upcoming state evaluation or upcoming performance competition. The focus is to review instrumentation, strengths and weaknesses of the ensemble, specific interpretation decisions and use of the clinic time.  There is an added option in that this workshop may include listening, conducting, sight-reading, or any other aspect that will assist with taking the ensemble’s preparation to a higher level

Music At First Sight

A focus on the preparation and performance of a variety of literature from the ensemble’s genre, such as difficulty levels, meters, keys and key changes, repeats, tempo and dynamic changes, styles and articulations. Literature is pre-selected to start with beginning /easy level and progress through a variety of arrangements at each level of difficulty. Included in this session is a plan of action as to how individuals and ensembles can prepare well in advance – the day of the festival – and in the sight reading room. Clinicians will teach tips of the trade to allow the ensemble to leave their workshop experience with a higher level of expectations as to their sight reading preparation.

These 3 workshops require a minimum of 35 performers and the length of the Workshops are 90 minutes in length

Jammin’ Jazz Session

An expert will rehearse concert or festival literature, enhance and improve improvisation and work on specific areas of need. Special emphasis is placed on improvement of each section of the Jazz Band – Rhythm, Saxes, Trumpets and Trombones and Jazz Styles and Articulation.

This workshop requires 25 performers and the length of the workshop is 90 minutes

Marching Showcase

Specialists in the areas of Marching Band Performance, Halftime Shows, Competitive Marching and Parades will help provide dazzling instruction and detailed techniques for your school’s marching band. This workshop allows for large and small group work and can be tailored to fit a variety of styles and goals.

This workshop requires 40 performers and the length of the workshop is 120 minutes.

Choral Workshops

OrlandoFest Choral Workshops explore the versatility and nuance of the voice to enhance the sound and vitality of your ensemble.

Maintaining a healthy voice is key to being a good singer regardless of music style. We focus our workshops on the important principals of breathing, support, resonance, blend, repertoire, and song tradition. Students will be directed to encourage quality of performance and to improve musical standards.

Types of Ensembles: Mixed Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, Jazz Choir

Topics Covered: Breathing, Vocal Technique/Tonal Quality, Dynamics, Phrasing, Rehearsal Pacing, Blending, and Preparing for an Audition

Students will learn techniques of vocal dynamics and acting through song while working with a musical director on a piece of show-style music. Explore the art of marrying music and drama to effectively achieve great emotional impact. Then, students have the opportunity to perform the piece they just learned with an professional performer, followed by a question-and-answer session

This workshop requires 25 performers and the length of the workshop is 90 minutes

Get Up and Dance

Choose from a variety of styles, such as Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Modern & Jazz and we will do the rest!

Life Is A Cabaret

Your students will work with a professional dancer/choreographer teaching them dynamic routines, that they can apply to their current routines. This session will then offering tips and pointers for auditions and career advancement in the world of Dance.

These 2 workshops require a minimum of 20 performers and the length of the Workshops are 90 minutes in length.

The Stage Is Yours!

This session is taught by professional performers that have performed a professional theater style show. Sheet music will be provided to the group, who will then work with a cast member and a pianist. The workshop recreates a true professional rehearsal with the students learning the choreography, staging, and music directly from a professional theater production.

Overture..Curtain..Lights!

Participants will work together in teams learning all the aspects of what it takes to put on a professional theater production. From the actors to the wardrobe staff to the lighting department and stage management, every aspect of a professional production will be represented. The program focuses on the importance of communication, collaboration and creativity. This workshop is highly interactive, fascinating and most of all, fun! Overture, Curtain, Lights! is adaptable to all age groups and levels of experience.

Theater Careers

Taught by a leading career coach or casting director, this session will give students the business skills for a successful career in theatre. The group will learn about audition procedures, agent submissions, head shots and resumes. The coach will also help students set personal goals and will select a few lucky students to experience a “cold” reading in a positive environment.

Musically Yours

Students will learn techniques of vocal dynamics and acting through song while working with a musical director on a piece of professional theater music. Explore the art of marrying music and drama to effectively achieve great emotional impact. Then, students have the opportunity to perform the piece they just learned with a professional performer.

These 4 workshops require a minimum of 25 performers and the length of the Workshops are 120 minutes in length.
