Your Classroom in Motion: A STEAM App Series

Your Classroom in Motion: A STEAM App Series
Combines national and state education standards with real-world critical thinking to transform our top attractions into creative learning environments, with extraordinary education opportunities in SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, the ARTS, and MATHEMATICS. While participating in our programs, students will connect what they are learning in their classrooms to careers in STEAM-related fields.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Science
Students learn a heart-pounding lesson in physics that teaches just what makes roller coasters like Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit so thrilling. In small groups, students use data they gathered to create a visual representation of the ride’s transfer of energy for a more cohesive understanding of physics principles.

Program Objectives:
Explain and apply understanding of potential and kinetic energy
Apply knowledge of the Law of Conservation of Energy to analyze rollercoaster data
Standards Alignment:
Next Generation Science Standards
Common Core State Standards for Math

Transformers ROLL Out
Students learn about the engineering principles of the Six Degrees of Freedom and apply that knowledge to a hands-on analysis of TRANSFORMERS: The Ride – 3D. Students then use their new skills to reconstruct the ride vehicle’s motion sequences.

Program Objectives:
Explain and model how the Six Degrees of Freedom are used in ride design and development
Differentiate between translational and rotational movement
Standards Alignment:
Florida Career and Technical Education Standards
Common Core State Standards for Math

Mummy Dig-Site Detective
Mummy Dig-Site Detective puts your students in the middle of a strange series of events on our Revenge of the Mummy attraction, asking them to use their powers of scientific observation to find evidence and draw conclusions based on their perceptions of the ride environment.

Program Objectives:
Explain the importance of understanding cultures and environments of the past to create authentic, immersive, and themed environments
Identify and explain the five basic steps of the Scientific Method
Standards Alignment:
National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies
Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Science

Jurassic Paleobotany
Students become paleobotanists in Jurassic Paleobotany, searching Jurassic Park™ for foliage from the era of the dinosaurs and comparing their findings to fossils to make identifications. Working in groups, students use tablets to photograph plants and plot their locations on a map of the area, experiencing the rush of scientific discovery in the process.

Program Objectives:

Describe the importance of understanding plants and environments of the past and present to create authentic, immersive, and themed environments
Apply knowledge of Jurassic plants to accurately identify modern plant species that existed during the Jurassic Period
Standards Alignment:
Next Generation Science Standards

Kongtrol Panel
Bring students face-to-face with a sophisticated positioning system that controls an independently navigated ride vehicle through the rough, unpredictable terrain of Skull Island. By programming the ride vehicle commands to avoid collisions, students gain a hands-on understanding of how engineering principles translate into ride success.

Program Objectives:

Describe the connection between coordinate systems and ride development and engineering
Differentiate between the Cartesian and polar coordinate systems
Standards Alignment:
Common Core State Standards for Math
Florida Career and Technical Education Standards
